I was sitting in the short loan section of the James Joyce library when a very polite German student came up to me and showed me his student card.
"Ahh, hello, I am a student here at UCD." He said. I spun around wildly and arched my eyebrows.
"Um," he contined, "I only have 15 cents but I need a euro to charge my card. Might you happen to have a euro?"
I was like sure and gave him the euro. He gave me the 15 cents.
Transaction complete.
... I suppose he saw it as not really begging if you are giving some money back. But I did feel quite good about myself for a long time after that.
